By-law Amendment Proposal At the Annual General Meeting

Dear Mile Zero Ultimate Members,

Mile Zero Ultimate runs on the efforts of its members. As a volunteer board we rely on you to tell us what we’re doing well and what we can do better. According to our by-laws, specifically section 11.01, any member also has the right to propose an amendment to the by-laws. The board may present such amendments at any general meeting, provided that we provide membership with at least two weeks notice. Amendments to the by-laws require a two-thirds majority vote to pass.

The MZU board has heard from some members on the issue of 18-year-olds and their lack of playing opportunity. Such players are too old to play in high school tournaments or youth leagues, but are too young to join MZU. Other considerations that should be taken into account regarding expanding our eligibility criteria are: potential limitations on space, as well as by-laws mandating spirit events for members – normally 19+ affairs.

As such, MZU member Andy Porter has submitted a proposed amendment to the board regarding section 3.01 of the by-laws. Below we have listed the current by-law, followed by the proposed amendment.

The MZU annual general meeting will take place on November 25 at 8:00 pm. This proposed amendment will be voted on at the meeting. We encourage everyone to attend. If you cannot attend but want a say in the outcome, please consult s. 4.05 of the by-laws – available on our website – on proxy votes.

No Fall Outdoor Games October 11 2015

Hey Fall Outdoor Players,

Just a reminder that there will be no games Sunday, October 11th 2015 due to Game 3 of the ALDS (Toronto @ Texas) which starts at 9:10PM conflicting with some of the games. Kidding! Thanksgiving b’y.  Games for Indoor BIY Monday October 12th will be going ahead as usual. That schedule is now up on Zuluru!

Thanks,

MZU

P.S not saying we won’t cancel Monday’s games if game 4 is required.

Eric Balkam Most Spirited Team Award

We’re so happy to announce that we are naming one of our favourite awards after a very special MZUer we lost this year, Eric Balkam.

The winners of this year’s Eric Balkam Most Spirited Team Award are: Scoober Doober Doo and Ghetto Geppetto! Congrats on an amazing season and for coming on the field with integrity and spirit every game.

Fall Indoor BIY Registration Details

Similar to last year, we will be having a Fall Indoor Build It Yourself League. We will be doing a registration similar to Winter BIY, as we thought that was the most fair and equitable.

The process is as follows:

-Captain’s can start identifying themselves and submitting a partial roster (minimum of 6 players)

-September 15th will be the deadline for Captains to self identify and submit their team’s partial roster to the league (via email, hi@MileZeroUltimate.com and VPLeague@MileZeroUltimate.com)

-If necessary, a Lottery system will select the 24 teams on September 16th. All teams will be drafted, with the first 24 being given a spot in the league, and any extras being added to the wait list.

-Captains have until September 28th to complete payment and have a full roster on Zuluru. New players will have to pay the $20 UNL fee before they are eligible to be added to a team. Failure to complete payment or roster by deadline will result in the next team on the wait list being offered the new spot. This team will have 48 hours to complete payment and have a full roster on Zuluru.

Equality Committee

We are incredibly happy about the response to our call for volunteers for the Equality Committee. It shows there is an interest to make MZU better. We are thrilled with the care and attention they gave a variety of issues and concerns facing equality in MZU. The discussions and outcomes will help fuel a more inclusive MZU. MZU is at the point now where we need greater feedback from our membership about equality and MZU. The committee has created a survey to measure your perception of gender equality and the concept of equal participation with Mile Zero Ultimate Leagues.

We are asking all members to take a few minutes to complete this survey. The responses we receive will help future initiatives of the Equality Committee and improve MZU as a whole.
