It’s that time of year again! End of Summer Party time!
The party will take place this Saturday, 8PM at The Remax Center (St. John’s Curling Club). It’ll have music provided by DJ Nu Rock, some finger foods, and bar service (it is a 19+ event). So come on down and celebrate the end of another great Capital Subaru MZU Summer League.
But wait! There’s more!
We will be handing out our Summer Awards! These awards are:
-Favorite Team Name
-Captain of the Year
-Most Committed Female
-Most Committed Male
-Favorite Opponent
Head on over to this form and nominate who you think should win our End of Season Awards!
MZU was excited to launch our Summer Parity League, believing we’d be creating a fun social league for those members looking for another opportunity to play Ultimate! However, to our surprise, registration has been slow. We’re close to meeting our target registration numbers and aren’t willing to give up yet! New plan, we’re going to reduce the length of the league by 1 week, to allow us some more time to recruit potential players.
To reflect this change, we’re also reducing the cost of the league to $25. Anyone who has already paid will receive a $5 refund within the next week or so.
Registration will now close at midnight on June 22nd, 2016.
League games will now start on June 27th, 2016. Playoff will still occur on August 1st, 2016.
For more information on our Parity League, go here.
The City has closed the fields for today. All games on Thursday, June 9 are postponed, we’ll be in touch about rescheduling. Please share with your teams and captains. Also, in the event it clears up, this still means you cannot practice or scrimmage on the fields. They are closed to all.
Summer leagues start on Tuesday June 7th.
We’ve got a quick refresher on the rules that differ between our indoor and outdoor leagues. Keep an eye out for more rules posts throughout the summer.
Once more we’d like to thank our sponsors.
Look for your vouchers in the captains bags for discounts from Capital Subaru and That Pro Look.
During our Year Plan Meeting back in February we announced changing up part of our summer offering to something a little different. At UCC’s we become more familiar with a parity league and thought our members would love it. So it’s time to open registration and run this new league. For info about our upcoming Parity League check out this page.
The key points are:
Registration will open Thursday, June 2nd at noon. There is limited space, so we expect it to fill up quickly. We will close registration June 16th at Midnight. Solo signup, $30 per player.
The league will run Monday evenings June 20th to August 1st at Southlands.
We will need 6 Captains to volunteer to be team managers as well as players. These are people who can be somewhat active on email to trade players and fulfill the parity requirement of the league.
We will be tracking stats and there will be either a fundraising or money making opportunity. We’ll have more details on that once we have an idea on registration.
Parity League, living the fantasy.
Our biggest league of the year will open registration on Thursday, April 14th at 12 noon NDT. Similar to last year, the league will be split into two separate divisions, now known as Tier 1 (i.e., former Flaherty Cup league) and Tier 2 (i.e., traditional summer league).
Also new for Summer 2016, players are allowed to register for both leagues and there is no limit to the number of Tier 1 players who can play on a Tier 2 team, and vice versa. One note, when building a team Captains should keep in mind that Playoff Day for both leagues will occur on August 27th, scheduling conflicts may occur.
Registration details for both leagues are below:
Tier 1
It will be based on the Wager Ranking System and include 12 games + Playoff Day
Planning for 6 or 8 Team elimination brackets, however final format will depend on the number of teams who register for Tier 1.
There will be no registration for single/pairs/small groups. If you are interested in playing in Tier 1 but do not have a team, please feel free to add your name to the matchmaking list .
Tier 2
It will be based on the Wager Ranking System and include 11-12 games + Playoff Day
8 Team elimination brackets. Groupings will be based on the top 8 (1-8), the next 8 (9-16), and so on… Byes may be necessary to ensure we keep groupings of 8. (i.e if total number of teams not divisible by 8 or teams cannot participate in playoff day).
If you have any questions, please email hi@milezeroultimate.com, post to our Facebook page, or reach out on Twitter.
Summer League Registration for Capital Subaru Summer League and Capital Subaru Flaherty Cup League will be taking place April 14th to April 28th. Both leagues will be registering at the same time. We’ll have more league details to follow, but start thinking about team building and which league your team will be entering in.

Some of you may remember our MZU Town Hall on February 17th. Some of you may want to relive the magic and confirm some dates for summer planning. Below are the two presentations that MZU presented that evening:
Additionally, as noted in the MZU Year Plan presentation we’ll be looking for help from the Ultimate Community to help with starting MZU’s first foray into parity style leagues. If you are interested in volunteering for this committee to start the parity league please email hi@MileZeroUltimate.com . If you are interested in more info about parity leagues please check what Vancouver Ultimate League does for parity here . This committee will be made up of some members of the MZU Board and the community, we’ll determine the size of the committee based on interest.

We received overwhelming interest in our Winter 2016 BIY Team League. We had submissions from 27 teams, which is incredible growth for this offering. Unfortunately, we only have room for 24 teams in the league, and thus have to conduct a lottery to determine who will play in the league. The results of that lottery are as follows:
Teams in the league:
Handler Bing
Halfhorse- R.Gaudon
Crush
Limp Diskit
Ghetto Geppeto
Lobsters
Johnson Insurance
TBD- H.Spurrell
Scoober Dooober Doo
#Scoregasm
Murdercrow
Donkey
Electric Disccharge
Huck Up Huck Off
Team Slow Clap
Flickipedia
Rubber Huckies
Nighthawks
Hotline Fling
Stop Staring at my Disc
Biped
Awesomehorse
Flicky Minaj
TBD- A.Bill
Waitlisted Teams:
1. Young Guns
2. TBD- J.Webb
3. Scoober Heroes
We now enter phase 3 of the league registration process. Teams have until Wednesday March 9 to register and invite their players. After that point any team who has not submitted a completed roster will be taken out of the league and we will start contacting waitlisted teams.
You can relive the magic of the lottery here:
Thanks,
MZU Board
