MZU was excited to launch our Summer Parity League, believing we’d be creating a fun social league for those members looking for another opportunity to play Ultimate! However, to our surprise, registration has been slow. We’re close to meeting our target registration numbers and aren’t willing to give up yet! New plan, we’re going to reduce the length of the league by 1 week, to allow us some more time to recruit potential players.
To reflect this change, we’re also reducing the cost of the league to $25. Anyone who has already paid will receive a $5 refund within the next week or so.
Registration will now close at midnight on June 22nd, 2016.
League games will now start on June 27th, 2016. Playoff will still occur on August 1st, 2016.
For more information on our Parity League, go here.
The City has closed the fields for today. All games on Thursday, June 9 are postponed, we’ll be in touch about rescheduling. Please share with your teams and captains. Also, in the event it clears up, this still means you cannot practice or scrimmage on the fields. They are closed to all.
Summer leagues start on Tuesday June 7th.
We’ve got a quick refresher on the rules that differ between our indoor and outdoor leagues. Keep an eye out for more rules posts throughout the summer.
Once more we’d like to thank our sponsors.
Look for your vouchers in the captains bags for discounts from Capital Subaru and That Pro Look.
During our Year Plan Meeting back in February we announced changing up part of our summer offering to something a little different. At UCC’s we become more familiar with a parity league and thought our members would love it. So it’s time to open registration and run this new league. For info about our upcoming Parity League check out this page.
The key points are:
Registration will open Thursday, June 2nd at noon. There is limited space, so we expect it to fill up quickly. We will close registration June 16th at Midnight. Solo signup, $30 per player.
The league will run Monday evenings June 20th to August 1st at Southlands.
We will need 6 Captains to volunteer to be team managers as well as players. These are people who can be somewhat active on email to trade players and fulfill the parity requirement of the league.
We will be tracking stats and there will be either a fundraising or money making opportunity. We’ll have more details on that once we have an idea on registration.
Parity League, living the fantasy.
Our biggest league of the year will open registration on Thursday, April 14th at 12 noon NDT. Similar to last year, the league will be split into two separate divisions, now known as Tier 1 (i.e., former Flaherty Cup league) and Tier 2 (i.e., traditional summer league).
Also new for Summer 2016, players are allowed to register for both leagues and there is no limit to the number of Tier 1 players who can play on a Tier 2 team, and vice versa. One note, when building a team Captains should keep in mind that Playoff Day for both leagues will occur on August 27th, scheduling conflicts may occur.
Registration details for both leagues are below:
Tier 1
It will be based on the Wager Ranking System and include 12 games + Playoff Day
Planning for 6 or 8 Team elimination brackets, however final format will depend on the number of teams who register for Tier 1.
There will be no registration for single/pairs/small groups. If you are interested in playing in Tier 1 but do not have a team, please feel free to add your name to the matchmaking list .
Tier 2
It will be based on the Wager Ranking System and include 11-12 games + Playoff Day
8 Team elimination brackets. Groupings will be based on the top 8 (1-8), the next 8 (9-16), and so on… Byes may be necessary to ensure we keep groupings of 8. (i.e if total number of teams not divisible by 8 or teams cannot participate in playoff day).
